Thank you for dropping by to check out my new single, Awaken
A brand new year brings brand new music and my latest single 'Awaken' is inspired by our quest to reconnect to our higher purpose and what we're here to do.
I have vivid memories as a child, of thinking why am I here? and where was I before this? Although I couldn’t articulate it, I was aware of a presence beyond my mind and beyond my thoughts. I was also aware from a young age that the mysteries of music afforded me a secret world into which I could escape whenever I could.
On a 'musical note', I can genuinely say that Awaken is one of my favourite compositions to date and I’m excited to know how it makes you feel?
As well as my love of music, I’ve always had a powerful attraction to mountain wilderness, both for the physical grandeur and for the expansive inspiration this environment evokes. Lofty peaks have always been synonymous with the spiritual quest and higher truths. The rarefied air somehow facilitates a clarity of consciousness and a stilling of the mind.
In my very early 20’s, I spent a lot of time in New Zealand’s glorious Southern Alps, followed soon after by an incredible solo adventure in the Karakorum range in Pakistan. The majority of the mountains in this region sit well above 20,000 feet and the area provides the access routes to the world’s second highest mountain, K2.
It was a profound place to explore and a confronting contrast to the western world I was familiar with. I still remember the mesmerising beauty of the alpine glow that set the giant peaks alight at sunrise and sunset as I basked in their regal majesty. The photos below are from this adventure way back in 1988. This region is the Ghangche district of the Gilgit-Baltistan Province in Northern Pakistan.

Some of the wonderful locals! (Spot the young Aussie bloke on the left!)
The Shepherd's hut which became my home for several nights, with a ceiling height of about four feet, a fire pit in the centre of a dirt floor, and wooden slat beds to lay my sleeping bag on!
The Majestic Mt Masherbrum (25,659 ft) in the distance. My destination of Hushe village sits at the end of this valley and is overlooked by this commanding peak! As you can see, greenery is scarce in this rugged place.
Part of the giant Karakorum range that leads towards K2 via the Baltoro Glacier. The remote Hushe village is the gateway to this area. With my guide I explored the Baltoro glacier and the surrounding region at the foot of these huge peaks.
Thanks so much for listening and for your ongoing support, it’s always deeply appreciated!
Warm wishes, Ian
