Live performance of the new single - ‘Spanish Serenade’
Spanish Serenade is a solo classical guitar piece with an evocative Spanish flavour. I originally composed this piece over 20 years ago and have often played it as my technical piece, meaning that it helps me maintain my technique and helps my fingers ‘warm up’ prior to either performing or recording.
I’ve always had a great fondness for this composition, and always enjoyed performing it, so it’s been a joy to finally record and release it to the world after all these years.
I’ve had a 45 year love of the guitar, especially the classical guitar. This piece pays homage to the talented forefathers of this wonderful instrument and in particular, the Spanish guitarist, Andrés Segovia, who was a giant in this field. Segovia paved a path for generations of classical guitarists, both with his masterful transcriptions for guitar - thus greatly expanding the size of the classical guitar repertoire - and with his exquisitely beautiful performances.
Over the last 30 years, I’ve only recorded a handful of solo guitar pieces. My natural inclination is to compose very multi-layered compositions with many musical parts, however in recent times I’ve been drawn to the simplicity and beauty that comes from the solo expression of my beloved instrument.
I hope you enjoy Spanish Serenade and the heartfelt simplicity of it.
Warm wishes, Ian
